John’s Story
John Oliver Menton grew up in Delaware - the first state and now the US President’s home state. When he was young, he wanted to be Davy Crockett, but settled for being a Boy Scout - camping, hiking, and running from bears and his brother, Dennis.
He’s an avid sports fan, especially for Manchester United, the Philadelphia Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, and, yes, the Flyers. He sincerely apologizes to any Canadian hockey fans he has offended with his allegiance, especially Wayne and Riley. John’s spent most of his life sleeping, in school, watching Philly teams lose, reading books,, and jumping on any excuse to spend time with family and friends - especially a competitive wiffle ball game. At some point he’ll be a better skier, surfer, chess player, and golfer.
John very much looks forward to being an honorary Canadian citizen, and continuing his lifelong lessons at the Laurin Elizabeth School for Mediocre Skiers.
Laurin’s Story
Laurin Elizabeth Henderson was born in Vancouver, Canada and spent much of her life doing typical Canadian activities - skiing, snowboarding and figure skating. Anything that requires more clothes and shoes to add to her collection.
She’s lived in more cities than she can remember, including: Vancouver, Kingston, Hong Kong, Sydney, Paris, and New York. Kate, her maid of honor who lives in Australia, is frequently surprised when Laurin does not show up at her door for a long weekend. Laurin will take any excuse to travel. Like the time she flew to London for a weekend to help her sister, Ashley, find a flat. While Laurin hates to sit still, the one thing that can keep her stationary is a Michelin Star restaurant. She enjoys fine meals with her family and lifelong friends.
Laurin can’t wait to have a fine meal with you all in Whistler and she looks forward to cheering for the Eagles as her fourth favorite football team for the rest of her life.
Our Story
Laurin met John through a mutual best friend, Keith, when all three worked at the same consulting firm. It was December 2015, and after the firm Christmas party, they all went to a local pub for a nightcap. John made the mistake of discussing politics, and the conversation turned into a years long stalemate. But really, this was when Laurin lived in Hong Kong and Australia.
They reconnected early in the summer of 2018, at a firm sponsored charity event called “Chips for Change.” That’s right, gambling. Well, fake gambling. They reconciled over stiff cocktails and the roulette wheel. The next night, they went to dinner at the Spotted Pig (John’s first Michelin Star), and have been inseparable since. Over the course of the past three years, they’ve been to ten different ski towns, an island in Greece, Paris, Napa, Australia - around the world, but always back to their home in New York.
They are counting the days until they welcome you to Whistler, for a celebration of love and joy and Dennis’ famous dance moves.
